William H. Heritage, III Named as Member of the Board of the American Red Cross
June 23, 2010
William H. Heritage, III has been named as a member of the Board of the American Red Cross, Southeast Michigan Services Region.
Mr. Heritage is Section Head of the Business Practice Group and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Firm. He concentrates his practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, business formation and planning, corporate law and international law. He is a graduate of Duke University, B.A. and Michigan State University College of Law (Detroit College of Law), J.D., cum laude.
The Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region serves five counties, and needs to collect about 900 units of blood a day to meet patient need in 46 hospitals. In addition to supplying nearly half of the nation’s blood, the American Red Cross teaches lifesaving skills, provides international humanitarian aid, and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization—not a government agency—and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

John A. Anderson appointed as Corporate Secretary and Member of Executive Committee for Genesys Regional Medical Center
John A. Anderson has been appointed by the Board of Trustees for Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc, Michigan, to serve as a Member of the Executive Committee of the medical center’s Board of Trustees and as an officer of the corporation in the capacity of Corporate Secretary. The appointments were made by the Genesys Board at its meeting on June 2, 2010 and are effective beginning July 1, 2010.
“I’m honored by the appointment” Anderson said. Anderson also observed that “Genesys is widely acclaimed as one of the nation’s best hospitals and it’s exciting to be part of a dynamic organization focused on quality healthcare delivery to residents of the Southeastern Michigan region.” Genesys was among only three hospitals in Michigan to receive the 2010 award as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by the HealthGrades hospital rating agency.
Genesys Regional Medical Center is part of the Ascension Health system, which is the nation’s largest non-profit hospital system and operates 500 facilities, including 67 acute care hospitals, in 19 states as well as the District of Columbia and employs 113,000 people nationwide.

Paul Thursam, a member of the firm's Business Practice Group, and Real Estate Practice Group, is a Program Chair for the Groundbreakers Breakfast Roundtable, Real Property Law Section, State Bar of Michigan.
Mr. Thursam is a graduate of the Ross School of Business, at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. As an undergraduate, he was awarded numerous class and University honors, including the William J. Branstrom Prize for academics. Later, he received his Juris Doctor from Wayne State Law School, where he was a member of the Wayne Law Review for two years.

Attorneys Gregory J. Gamalski and Paul A Thursam, both members of the firm's Real Estate Practice Group, recently published a comprehensive article titled Legal Considerations Related to Redevelopment, Reconfiguration, and Re-Sale of Failed Condominium Projects and Subdivisions. The article will appear in the Spring 2010 issue of the Michigan Real Property Review, a publication of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Messrs. Gamalski and Thursam work closely with condominium developers, condo associations, lenders and construction companies to re-cast and re-purpose struggling condominium developments, especially those developments who are finding it difficult to respond to the current trends in housing and financing.

Jennifer M. Savel
Ms. Savel joins the firm’s Estate Planning Group. She concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, and related tax matters. Ms. Savel’s experience extends from the drafting of simple wills and the probate of estates for pro bono clients to complex trust drafting and administration of multi-million dollar trusts and estates. Ms. Savel is well-versed in the preparation of federal estate tax returns and has negotiated federal estate tax audits with the Internal Revenue Service. Ms. Savel also represents clients in probate and trust contests, as well as guardianship and conservatorship matters.
Prior to joining Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., Ms. Savel practiced estate and trust law at another major Detroit-based law firm. She is a co-author of “Administering Decedents’ Estates,” ICLE’s Michigan Basic Practice Handbook. Ms. Savel is a graduate of Hillsdale College (B.A., suma cum laude) and University of Toledo (J.D., magna cum laude). Hosts Detroit RiverFront Conservancy 2010 Strategic Plan
Matt Cullen, Chairman of the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, Mitch Mondry, Chair of Strategic Planning and Board Member with Faye Nelson, CEO of the DRFC presented the 2010 Strategic Plan.
Hosted by Julius Giarmarco, attorneys from every Section of the Firm participated in the presentation by The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. The Firm has committed to continue its support for the advancement of the completion of the Strategic Plan.
The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, a non-profit organization, was founded in 2003 with the mission of bringing public access to Detroit's RiverFront. Today, three miles of the east Riverfront is complete and open to the public. The overarching goal remains in place: To develop a total of 5 ½ miles of Rverfront, from the Ambassador Bridge to Gabriel Richard Park, just east of the bridge to Belle Isle connected by RiverWalk, plazas, pavilions, parks, harbors and green spaces. There are endless exciting possibilities ensuring use and enjoyment of the Riverfront for generations to come.
The Conservancy is responsible for the construction, improvement, operation, maintenance, security, programming and expansion of the Detroit RiverWalk and associated green spaces.

William H. Horton Selected For Inclusion in Super Lawyers, Business Litigation 2010
Troy, Michigan, February 19, 2010: William H. Horton was recently named to Michigan Super Lawyers® as a result of a survey by Law & Politics Media, Inc. He was selected through a process which included peer evaluation and independent research. Only five percent of the attorneys in Michigan were named to the Super Lawyers list.
Mr. Horton is a managing partner of the firm and has 25 years experience in the areas of business and commercial disputes, employment law, and real estate. He is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

“An Introduction to Careers in Health Law”
Joseph F. Page will be a guest speaker at the University of Michigan on March 10, 2010 at a presentation by the State Bar of Michigan Health Care Law Section entitled “An Introduction to Careers in Health Law”. Mr. Page will discuss and answer questions about the practice of health law in varied settings.
Mr. Page has over 35 years of experience in the health care field, providing legal advice and services at every level of health care law from senior executive of large health care organizations to private practitioners. He represents hospitals and other non-profit health care institutions, large physician organizations, group practices and solo practitioners in corporate, regulatory, transactional and risk management issues including Stark II, HIPAA, Anti-Kickback and the False Claims Act.

Michael L. Bosnic
Mr. Bosnic concentrates his practice in the areas of school district and municipal
representation and litigation. Mike has extensive experience working with school
districts and municipalities. He is currently serving his third term on the Clawson Board
of Education, and is its former President. Mike received an Award of Merit from the
Michigan Association of School Boards for his work on the Clawson Board of Education.
He has successfully represented a number of Oakland County communities in District
and Circuit Courts, and is currently involved with numerous municipalities through his
judicially appointed work with Drug Treatment/Sobriety Courts in Troy, Novi and
Waterford. Mike also successfully represents clients in Federal Court, having
prosecuted their claims for age and gender discrimination, he obtained a record jury
verdict against the Internal Revenue Service. He was featured on the cover of the
February 10, 2003 edition of Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
Mr. Bosnic is on the Executive Committee of the Oakland County Republican
Party, has been elected Treasurer of the 9th Congressional District, served as legal
counsel/parliamentarian for the Policy Committee, served as a delegate to the 2008
Republican National Convention, and in 2008 was elected to be the nominee for the
Oakland County Commission seat in District 19 (Troy and Clawson). Appointed by the
2008 Senate Majority Leader to serve on a panel to create greater efficiencies in the
operation of Michigan school districts.
Mr. Bosnic is a graduate of Michigan State University (BA 1991) and is a Life
member of the MSU Alumni Association, graduate of Notre Dame Law School (JD
1994). He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, has obtained an “AV” rating from
Martindale Hubbell, and is admitted to practice in the US District Court in Michigan
(Eastern District) and the US Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit.
