JOHN A. ANDERSON
Mr. Anderson is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and received his Law degree from Michigan State University/Detroit College of Law.
Mr. Anderson has considerable experience as a business lawyer representing both middle-market clients and entrepreneurs, while a main focus of his practice is in health care law, primarily on the provider side. As a partner of the Health Care Practice Group at Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., he represents numerous health care providers ranging from large single and multi-specialty groups to small groups and individual physicians. He also represents diagnostic providers, physical therapy providers, and home health agencies. Mr. Anderson was formerly General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for a large medical billing company headquartered in the Midwest and, in that capacity, he worked closely with physicians, group practices and other providers on business matters as well as billing & reimbursement issues. Mr. Anderson also has considerable experience working with banks, particularly in relation to loan workouts, special asset issues, forbearance agreements and foreclosures, as well as the civil and bankruptcy litigation related to such workout matters.
Mr. Anderson’s practice areas include all manner of business transactional and litigation matters, with an emphasis on banking and health care law and the full spectrum of health care provider issues including compliance matters, fraud & abuse, third-party audits, billing & reimbursement, entity formation, contract negotiations, physician self-referral/Stark, Anti-kickback, licensing and litigation.
Mr. Anderson is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, and is active in the Health Care Law Section (HCLS) of the Michigan State Bar as a current member of that section’s Governing Council, past co-chair of the HCLS Publications Committee, and a past member of the HCLS Health Providers Subcommittee. Mr. Anderson is also a Member of the Executive Committee and is Board Secretary for the Genesys Regional Medical Center (GRMC) in Grand Blanc, Michigan and he sits on both the Board of Trustees and the Audit Committee for GRMC. He chairs the GRMC Quality and Safety Committee and he serves on the board of the Genesys Physician Hospital Organization. He is also a member of the Business Law Section of the Michigan State Bar. Additionally, Mr. Anderson is an adjunct professor of Management at Walsh College and teaches in that school’s MBA program. He is admitted to practice in the state of Michigan, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the United States 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
