FREDERICK A. SYNK

Mr. Synk has unique experience in both the legal and business aspects of sophisticated real estate transactions, having performed a dual role as lawyer and business representative in a wide variety of matters. At Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., he concentrates his practice in the areas of real estate and commercial transactions.

Experience:


From 1984 to 1999, Fred worked in a range of positions of increasing responsibility in the Real Estate Department of Kmart Corporation, culminating in Regional Director of Real Estate for the company's Midwest and New England regions. He spearheaded the strategic analysis, site selection, and legal acquisition process for over 100 new Kmart and Super Kmart stores. In other positions at Kmart, Fred arranged for the disposition of 52 closed stores in an 18-month period, achieving $20 million in savings for the company and completed deals for the expansion of 36 undersized Kmart stores in one year. Fred also performed the real estate due diligence on the acquisition of several retailers by Kmart.

Subsequent to his work at Kmart Corporation, Fred served as the General Counsel and Director of Development for Malan Realty Investors, a Real Estate Investment Trust in Bingham Farms, Michigan, and as Director of Land Acquisition and Community Shopping Centers at Schostak Brothers & Company, Inc., a full-service real estate company in Southfield, Michigan.

Fred has also worked as a real estate consultant for site selection for Mosaica Education, a charter school education services provider, and consulted with Klaff Realty on the acquisition of closed store properties in the Kmart Bankruptcy in 2002-2003.

Fred is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and serves on its Government Relations Committee. He is also a licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of Michigan, and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve (Intelligence) as a Lieutenant Commander.
